Subject: RE: Converted Crop Ground to Grass

West Central Illinois
Well, in hindsight I should have blended orchardgrass in it as well but I didn't. In some areas of it I have maybe 10% of the stand coming in volunteer orchardgrass through the seedbank but it wouldnt have hurt to put maybe 1/3 orchard in with the fescue would definitely have helped with the "heat" of the fescue in the hot summer months. Honestly though the only other cool season that does ok on this place is brome but it seems to take a solid stand of that and not allow competition. Always was told to look at your road ditches to see what grass you should plant. Things like Timothy and perennial ryegrass never seemed to stick around in the stand when my grandpa would plant waterway mixes when he'd redo grass waterways out in the tillable ground.
