Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | After your reminder about "cleaning up my field names" yesterday, I followed through on it. I discussed the approach that I had in mind for our operation with my Great Nephew who does the planting and spraying.
We decided that we would have one Grower with some 20 Farms at the next level. These farms are named with names we have used through history and often relate to a former owner or the land size. Each Farm has at least one Field with All attached to it. If an entire Farm is going to be planted to a single crop we will chose the Field named All. If the Farm is going to be split between corn and soybeans we will use the appropriate Field for each. Here's a portion of our arrangement:
Grower Thisius Revised 2026
Stenzel Farm Stenzel All Stenzel East Stenzel West
Ted Home Farm Ted Home All
The 40 Farm The 40 All
Hall Quarter Farm Hall Quarter All Hall Quarter North Hall Quarter South
I hand typed the entire list into one of my InCommands which didn't take too long. I then created a setup file to get these names into the other InCommands. This setup file was saved to a USB stick. I inserted this stick into one of the other InCommands and started the transfer process. The process gave me lots f choices as far as what to transfer. If a name such as Home had been used in the receiving display already, it asked me what to do with it. The process appears to have worked properly but it might have been easier in one case to have completely wiped the receiving InCommands of their memory and then perform the process, since there would not have been any conflicts with that approach.
I ran out of time but will do the Master InCommand today. I will do a backup first since I may need it if I mess up.
In some respects, it might have been just as easy to type in the New Grower, New Farms and New Fields directly without attempting to use the setup files approach. I think I will do that with the one I have left. I will need to be careful to type them in exactly the same as my Master List.
