Southwest Missouri
Can't give you any advice on putting it up dry in your area but here's my limited experience with it. I sowed a field last year after wheat that wrapped for hay. Once wheat was off I worked ground three times ( disc once, field culitaver twice) then rolled with heavy rock roller. Took my seed to fertilizer plant had them mix seed in with fertilizer. 60 foot spread buggy i wanted 300 pounds of fertilizer plus 15 pounds of seed per arce I set spreader at a third of that and drove on 20 foot intervals. I was going to roll it again with my cuiltpacker but forecast was saying heavy rains and they were right so I didn't. Got two cuttings off of it before I sprayed it and notilled alfalfa. My yield was around 3.5 bales(4x5.5) per arce first cutting 2 bale second cutting.
