Western Oregon | I broke my ankle in 3 places and the small leg bone in 2 places at 50. Never missed a day of work. Had to wait a week before surgery. Screws and plates. Doc said I could be in a cast, on crutches 6 weeks. Then 6 more in air boot. Started hurting bad 4 weeks in. Removed cast and found I had drop toe. Put me in the air boot early but it all worked out good. Doc told me IF I didn't have surgery and screws, it would be flat on my back for 8 to 12 weeks. Happened on Sat, Went to work Monday morning, Dr appointment on Monday afternoon, surgery the next week on Tuesday. Went to work Tuesday morning, had surgery in the afternoon, back to work on Wednesday morning, half day. Same when had cast removed. I was working for the city 1/2 days, 19 steps up to second floor on crutches everyday, then back down. Mostly paperwork and labs, some light chemical mixing and water sampling, then downstairs to fill lime tank, and leave. 10 years later, ankle all came undone, had fusion, 2 years later had to have ankle joint removed and fused, 1 1/2" walking rocker sole on boot. I can walk but starting to bother knee. I am 70 now. I still walk 2-3 miles a day....James | |
