Bull on the fight pasture loading = birdshot
Ringy cow trying to kill you = birdshot
The numbers don’t surprise me.
I’ve never been around someone herding with such techniques. Just last ditch self preservation use.
I have a 22 mag pocket pistol in my cantle bag and don’t remember the last time it was shot. It’s only going to change minds if they are in your personal space.
Now days I collect border collies, not the fine specimens you see gracefully herding sheep. More the lines of gritty if I have to I will chew your face off. Have 2, year olds that I’m about to start, one will go to a friend if he proves he can survive him. You get enough of those weird little dogs, cattle gathering turns more into trail riding and the help gets bored. I don’t like wild gatherings tho. Bored help=good gathering.
Mac - the lady from NCBA on Agritalk was saying that birdshot + needles were in the meat of fat cattle - fed-out calves/yearlings - not burger cows and pepperoni bull sausage.
If a bull or rangy cow is trying to kill you, you’d better be shooting to kill with a big caliber handgun. 22 mag just doesn’t seem big enough. I wouldn’t shoot a bear that was charging me with birdshot!
It does make me wonder (kind of twisted) what the docility EPD’s on these cattle are? |
