Subject: Well it is here again

The news from Farm Progress today.

https://www.farmprogress.com/animal-health/colin-woodall-screwworm-o...

It already made it to this country last summer in a human that vacationed in Central America last summer. Let hope this is contaned as well.

Not all that well documented as other outbreaks, but it was here in California in the fall of 74 I think. Any way 73,74, or 75. I lived at home but attended college 40 miles away. Generally at least a half day with no classes some quarters only 3 1/2 days of classes. But it was fall calving season in central California. Dad had all cows on barley stubble mixed with a friends cows on about 2000 acres ( half being fallow) with better than 100 acres of steep draws and hillsides. So rather than drive it with a pickup they were horse back. Thankfully the first frost more or less killed them off for the year.

I cannot remember what we might have used on the wounds and navels if they had screw worms. That was about the end of the KRS days. If you have used KRS you no dough will never forget the smell. I am thinking we had spray cans. But I remember holding calves down and digging the wiggle buggers out and making sure they wiggled no more.
