NE Iowa | 568 baler with JD coveredge wrap here. Most my hay is grass and some alfalfa mix. I like 3 full wraps but have to set baler at 3.3 to get that. I don't understand the 2.5 wrap idea? Half the bale has 2 wraps and half the bale has 3 wraps.
Most of my hay sets outside and or gets sold. I like nicer looking tight bales that transport without breaking.
For the few stalk bales I make I do 4 full wraps. Pulling the coveredge off a stalk bale is a pain though. If I did more I would switch to edge to edge for the stalks.
Had 1 customer that wanted 5 wraps on hay because he claimed less spoilage setting outside. I charged more to make his bales. I have very little spoilage with 3 wraps on outside stored hay feeding in my bale rings. | |
