Same here. They all have to walk at least an eighth of a mile to water and back, cows and heifers. They calve on pasture beginning may 1 or some up to a week earlier.

Unless you're calving much earlier, I don't see why they can't just calve on pasture. Using calving ease bulls is the way to build a herd where you can sleep nights.

This is also the catch to dry lotting cows.
