Not quite 40 and attitudes change. Wait 20 years and ask yourself what happened. I'm still not sure if age makes us meaner...or knocks off the rough edges. I do know one thing, the older you get, at least for most of us, that bias against iron changes. I fed most of my life with a 4020, I can't do it anymore, and there's no shame in it. Just look at Jim with that side boom skidloader for how many cows? Don't fault him for a second
Dang I'm only 10 older than 40 and I have to somewhat agree with you.
There is a time to buy iron.
I want it to work when it should work, especially if a rains a coming. Or if you have a bale wrapper you don't have to worry about the weather: mow, rake, bale and wrap and then watch it rain.
No way would I recommend a young guy to start out with new stuff for 30 - 50 cows, but when that builds into 10 fold, you need good dependable equipment, whatever that looks like for each operation.
I still sometimes prefer the 4020 over these new tractors I can't see out of, or around the loader frames, to stack or load hay. And it doesn't take DEF!!! lol. So you are showing your age. |
