mercer county, il | I agree. Rye, triticale, oats and peas etc. followed by corn silage, sorghum Sudan, millet etc. will yield more tons of forage than any perennial pastures around here, except the reed canarygrass, and it has its own issues.
The lag time in getting a good perennial stand of grasses established is gonna be expensive, and may very well not be economically sound by the time it gets to full production. Yes, for some of the hard to farm, cut up small timber patches it would probably be sound.
And with oats in there, at least last year would have triggered some trumpbucks.
I’m told I’ll get paid for some we took as forage anyway. | |
