As I read it, the point of the article is that farming decisions and land values and input costs now seem to rest more on government payments rather than market forces. And that government payments prevent input costs from EVER going down. And as usual this discussion turns into a "blame game" of blaming the OTHER political party rather than discussing the actual issue of government payments to ag. Government payments and the whole system of ag subsidies and "ad hoc" payments has existed for a long time and under both parties. The article seems to raise the issue of no longer do market forces (read supply and demand) have much to do with farm decisions and economics. The article suggests that it is time to question the whole system of government payments. We can do better here than play the blame game.
