Either option will work fine. 

Merging East 80 and West 80 into a new 3rd field works. So does just merging E80 and W80 and then renaming the one that's left. 

Both options will let you choose an existing boundary to pick as the "good" one or you can create/edit a new one which of course you'll have to do no matter what.
