100 miles north of the NYC crapper | A century ago, we had 3 railroads that ran through our township. The New Haven owned 2 of them and they went away during the depression. The 3rd was the New York Central Harlem division. That was shortened to a stub line for New York commuters.
Back in their heyday a big source of revenue was hauling milk. I’m sort of a RR buff. My grandmother born 1901 used to tell me stories of riding the train to attend high school.
It’s one of my favorite pass times during the winter riding around checking out the old railed and culverts etc. they stick out like a sore thumb when there’s snow on the ground.
