I’ve seen very detailed maps that are hard to follow they have so many old lines. Which are neat to study.

I like this one from a decade ago, it includes the current and maybe older names of the current main runs, and has dotted grey lines to show how it all used to interconnect and cries cross back in the day.

I probably shouldn’t say interconnect; back in the day the rail companies were very territorial and tried to isolate out the competition.
