Subject: Tips on use of electric branders

My wag thoughts are pulling between 400-800 watts. I checked it out one time. So one of those smaller generators will run one iron. We helped neighbor re-brand a herd one winter, it was cold like 10 degrees as we preg checked the cows. Was running a 6500 watt Honda inverter generator. Was running two irons on the two 110v plugs. It was kicking out breaker on one iron. Should have ran one iron on the bigger twist lock 30 amp plug 110v plug, I dont 5hink it would have kicked them out.

So we just ran one iron, no problem in keeping up. Couple of tips, dont throw iron in a metal bucket it will over time distort iron. Try to build something to hang iron in a bucket or barrel. Same as when branding in some locations on animal. We shoulder brand and over time branding on a slight angle the iron being hot will twist and distort a little. Making iron have a slight bend to it. Best to hold straight as you apply brand. However our shoulder brand is hard to do in a chute.

We still use hot irons, but for a few head and not wanting to set up forge we use electric, they are nice.
