Valley, NE | absolutely, i don't buy a bull until see his dam in person, luckily i don't have to buy too many bulls in my situation over the past 20 years. but the other thing i do, i pull the progeny reports off the Simmental database of any one bull's dam. I can see everything they have had registered out the cow and then usually find those animals in the previous or current sale catalog. If a specific dam is putting cattle into their sale catalog consistently and having the cattle get registered and performing over multiple years, it is more likely the offspring of this specific bull will do in my herd as well. it's not a perfect science, but great cow families make great cow herds.
Plus I want to get a glimpse of what possible daughters will be like. | |
