I agree with the "hands off" . I never touch my cows or bulls, they are not pets. But I enjoy being out in the pasture with them, cheaper than a psychiatrist and more effective! Once in the corral my older cows remember that going through the tub and chute is (usually) the way out and back to pasture. No hesitation there at all. Young ones see mama out in the pasture and follow although we usually run the new calves through ahead of the cows. I have no problem being in the corral with my Herefords, guiding them with my position. Yes I am just a small operation, about 30 brood cows is my comfort range. A larger operation in a different environment is a different ball game.
