Agreed. With a bit lighter (1200-1300 lb) cows you can have a few more cows on the same amount of grass as 1500-1600 lb cows and therefore a few more calves which should more than make up for a slightly smaller frame average calf at sale time.

Cow/calf people need to do what is most profitable for themselves, not the packer, or we won't have enough USA calves to process.
