Southeast Colorado | Years ago I had a cow run over a calf trying to get to me, and the calf subsequently died. I quit tagging at birth after that, unless it's just super handy. Now we just tag at early branding and then match the numbers up over time. Also wait to vaccinate and band the bulls at that time. The age varies..........but we try to get to them in the first few months........after all of them have been born. It helps that we calve on grass and then move all of them to the irrigated ground to grow the calves through winter. | |
