Toss it and get a Logitech mouse.  In my experience you get what you pay for.  The more you pay the better the feel of the mouse.  Heavier, smoother, and better clicks.  I retired my 20 year old rechargeable Logitech last summer and replaced it with their newest model.  I think it was close to $150 but the charge lasts for several months.
