Are those normal terms-spring breeding rights and 50% semen?
Maybe those clauses lessened the money spent by a ways.
No that is not normal. They thought enough of this bull that they wanted to use him back in their program. When breeders raise bulls like that they will want to retain some ownership.
Some interested people wanted him for spring and some wanted fall breeding rights. So it was getting complicated and they decided to just go ahead and sell full possession. Thankfully!!!
Now as to semen rights, lots of breeders are retaining some sort of semen rights. An example would be 50% semen rights on all bulls they sell say under $20,000 and 1/3 semen rights on bulls over $20,000.
Also some are retaining a right to flush females that they sell.
I think they have these clauses in case an animal goes on and does something phenomenal, win a show, get put into a stud, etc...
