| mikado - 1/30/2026 19:37 I’ve told about keeping more in my pocket after a turn of my 45-50 hobby hogs……than a couple of confinement barn fulls of hogs. Formula contracts but I owned my hogs, not custom growing. Back it those days I would have to value my own corn at ZERO….to make my cash flow work, to pay other bills. DO NOT miss that…. Love my hobby hogs.
Yeah, there have been times that owning hogs pretty much sucked. Its been decent for a while now. One good thing about the cost of buildings sky rocketing after covid is that it kind of put a speed limiter on the big boys constantly expanding as the economics of the building for custom feeding just isn't that appealing.
Hobby hogs are fine but I'd rather hobby raise a few cattle. You most certainly wouldn't be having fun if you were trying to make a living raising hogs on bedding. BTDT and I ain't ever going back no matter how much someone wants to pay for a few locker hogs.
