What does everyone else charge for the same work in your area? I know that's not a good way to set your price because everyone's overhead and financial needs are different but that would give an idea what his options are besides you. Explain to him that your cost of living isn't the same as it was 8 years ago and that you've been working under paid for a while so the increase was necessary
