| GrainTrader - 1/28/2026 19:03 Once you get so big you need more reliable and bigger stuff and that depreciates quicker. As I’ve added land and tried to be more efficient with less people and larger stuff I’ve realized some of that. Running a 2577 combine right now (I don’t own it I rent it, but that’s a story for another day), but knowing its value and depreciation and parts we’ve put it the depreciation isn’t that bad. Its bones will get thin enough I won’t be able to wrench it myself someday. The next purchase will be a much worse unit for depreciation I’m afraid….
If you owned that 2577 you could likely trade (sell and buy, not trade with a dealer) to a much bigger and newer combine for very little cost out of pocket.
People will pay absolutely stupid amounts of money for a clean 2577/2588 combine for the ability to keep using their old 1083/1020 heads.
Lots of used combine capacity can be bought cheap in the Class 8 Flagships. Just know what you're buying (or have someone that does look at it with you) so you don't get stuck with something that needs $100,000 dumped into it to get it ready to use.
