You werent farming in the 83 and 88 drought years. prior to 83, was just the old Federal crop, which only the poorest operators took out cuz fha required it. 83 the modern multiperil was created, whereby producers with good records could establish a ten year yield history, vs the crappy county yields from previous federal crop. This new level of coverage kept operations intact that otherwise would have certainly folded in those terrible drought years so close together.
