| I have two laser printers. I have a monochrome laserprinter that I use for printing checks and my monochrome prints. I have a color laserprinter that I have on my network,. I use it to print color and the stuff that is two sided, and since it is on the network, the rest of the family prints to it. The monochrome printers is about 20 year old, the color printer is about 15 years old.
I bought the color printer, an HP CP2025DN for about $300. I'd say that when I bought it, it was a high end home oriented printer. The black toner costs about $80, and the set of color toners costs $225. So every time I replace the toner, I am spending more on toner than I spent for the printer. There are generic toners available that are cheaper, but the reviews also have people complaining that they ruined the printer, so I haven't taken that gamble. I haven't kept a close track, but it seems like I replace the toner every couple of years. I've printed 32,000 pages, 7500 monochrome, 24500 color. So that is about $0.14 per page for toner. If the printer died, I'd replace it with another laserjet.
