West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12 | Where does all of this "lost" soil go?
Some soil is "lost" forever and sent down the river to the Gulf of America to erosion every year, but my personal observation over the past six decades is that the vast majority of "lost" soil is what I would call "relocated" soil within the same fields.
FWIW, some of the worst washouts that I have personally created has been on no-till fields. And, in our short steep hills, no-till runs a close second behind moldboard plowing as far as soil erosion is concerned IMO. |
