1 ton of soil spread across an acre is about 0.01". 100 tons of soil per ac is about 1" of soil. There are a lot of farms in this area that have less than 12" of topsoil when they started with 3 to 4 feet. It sounds like a lot but it wouldn't take much wind on bare dirt to blow away 5 tons of soil per ac.
