Latimer Iowa
I don't have type 1 but was diagnosed with Graves that gives you hyperthyroidism. That sped up my metabolism to the point it was hard to maintain weight and my hands would shake, and I would sweat easily. Had a few doctors that were, below average, that prescribed different levels of meds that were supposed to combat this. The meds didn't really help as it would take a year to get an appointment to adjust the dose and I was frustrated with them, and that long to get appointments, so I didn't take the meds like i should. Eventually the local just said well you need your thyroid removed which I had done at the local hospital. Why a surgery appointment only took 3 weeks to get in, while a regular doctor appointment to adjust a med took a year is beyond me....

Anyway, after the thyroid was removed they were still very difficult to get appointments with for the new meds I now have to be on for the rest of my life. So had the opposite symptoms, hypothyroidism, that was poorly treated. Hypo arguably has worse side affects then hyper....

Eventually got in at Iowa City and they basically said if your meds had been managed when you had hyperthyroidism you would not of had to have the thyroid removed.
