Fairfield County, Ohio, USA | My first recommendation would be to see if you know anyone who has a tablet who would be willing to let you use it for 15 minutes or so, to see what you think of it. There are a good number of different tablet sizes out there, and people have different preferences. We use the iPad Air line at my day job for various things, which is indeed smaller than a laptop and larger than a phone, but it's too large for me to comfortably read a book on, for example. I prefer the iPad mini for that (which to me feels like it's slightly more than twice the size of a phone screen, which is about perfect to me, for the things I care about doing on it.
Regarding models... I know little about currently available Android tablets. I used to have several of them (one at a time) years ago, but the Android ecosystem has changed for the worse, in my opinion, so I switched. If you look at Apple products, the base model iPad or iPad mini would probably be adequate for you -- the main thing you'd need to decide upon is what size you'd like. The iPad Pro models are *much* more powerful, but nearly nobody needs that.
For what it's worth, many (though by no means all) of the precision ag apps out there are only available on iPad, or work better on iPad, or are available on iPad before Android. The opposite might be true with some products too, but I'm not familiar with those. AgFiniti Mobile (not AgFiniti) is one of the apps that we use that is only available on iPad. If there's any specific apps you might want to use, perhaps check into those, to see if they have any requirements or suggestions. |
