NE South Dakota Clark, SD | You more than likely don't have much for soil type changes in the valley. However productivity can be varied usually due to drainage issues. If you have been composite sampling in the past or zone sampling you can miss some things that grids may catch. Both zones and grids have their plusses and minuses. I see a lot of pretty poor zones created off soils maps that do not reflect the field very well at all. I have a coworker that did 1 acre grids in the Hillsboro area. They found some pH in the low to mid 5's. Beet lime is plentiful and very cheap. They were able to identify this because of the high definition gids. Zone sampling prior to that did not.
