coup - 1/27/2026 07:45  Since you believe land is the main cost that needs lowered, how much lower do land rents need to be to make things work?

IMO, the simplest solution for rents to automatically adjust to yields/prices is share crop or a cash rent = to a percentage of the gross.

Somewhere in this thread I already commented that 1/3 of the gross is workable in most cases with average or better ground, it does not work very well with below average ground.   For the best of the best ground (the top 10% of the corn belt), 40% of the gross is probably workable.

It would be a very rare/extremely good piece of ground that could make 50% workable with current costs and grain prices.    And it would take a livestock operation subsidizing it to make it work.

You are dodging the question, you have said rents are the main problem, how much lower do you think they need to be to solve the problem?
