I saw the opposite here so I went back to flate rate for soybeans. I still variable rate the corn though. The problem I had with soybeans is that the better yielding areas of my farm that you drop the pop on for soys are "heavier" ground and it seemed that I had emergence issues especially on colder wetter years. I do run 15 in rows, so the lower pops were more noticeable. If I was doing 30in rows it may not have been the problem.
