If I recall correctly CHS planned to build near Jamestown ND. Changed their stock structure to sell stock to the general public to raise funds. Originally proposed cost was a little of a billion dollars and that kept rising and then Chs said they couldn’t obtain enough water at the proposed site. CF offered CHS an investment into its company or plants for a billion ish and CHS did that instead and after years of promoting the benefits of a ND located plant they abandoned their goal.

Spiritwood.

Original plan was 1 to 2 billion, they raised that, then it went to 3, they raised that, then 3.5 they were starting to get that when they bought stock in something else.

Spiritwood/Jamestown was a dumb spot. They should have built by Williston and they would have had basically infinite water from the lake and basically free gas from the wells. The Highline has a lot of double track there as well along with soon to be 4 lanes going every way but west to truck it out.
