What was the end result?
I did a similar trial 2 years in a row. Side by side. The corn treated with biologicals had noticeably better roots, just as yours showed. Corn actually looked a bit better than the untreated. I actually was looking forward to seeing the results. At harvest there was no measurable difference in yield. My conclusion was that the normal root mass was sufficient to pick up needed nutrients in my soils
with the weather this past year and the variability in our soils, a side by side pass takes me into different sized stress zones. In the sweet spots the biological side went up higher and had less Inputs just to tough of a year to say " look Here guys 30 bu from a biological"
History of these trails has good crop response, reduced bulk Input rates and improves soil tests.
Your reply brings up a great point that many of us toss things under the bus to quickly.
A perfect soil test and plant test still can't predict yield, in my case soil and weather are the to biggest limiting factors that I can't fix/ control completely. By correcting soil/ plant tests it's a " I did the best I could do, it's up to nature and the plant now". Moment |
