Haha I like the analogy.
How beneficial or hard do you think it would be to overcome a fungicide pass with a follow-up pass of a biological or compost tea?
Or maybe a pivot pass with a high rate of biological or tea?
I follow the OPs train of thought and want to make biologicals work, but if they don’t I wanna know why also
If a biological is labeled for a disease like contans and white mold, then yes you should expect results The product was labeled and marketed to do that.
But I think a generic biological product to replace a fungicide pass while a disease is present is asking for trouble. At this point let's plug the leaks on the ship and get as close to shore as we can. Next year we can try again.
I haven't used a fungicide many years. Biologicals are 1 part of my system, nutrient management, soil management, covers, cows, rotation..an overall system to build high functioning soil.
Biologicals can help with pest disease pressure, we just need to be realistic, make sure to use them in the best way. And time. Year one, I would keep my fungicide retailer phone number just in case, year 5 of a complete system, probably stop and say hi because you miss him.
Fungicides have more components than just killing. So even a healthy plant might show a positive response. So I went with a phosphite acid product for that. Promotes plant health, signals the defense system of the plant, but has no killing action to it. Nutrition!
If we take this one step further on the disease. Soil born pathogens biological products can be a powerful tool and much faster that trying to fight a rust that blows in.
