Stalks in our part of the works great if fenced in wheat pasture. Cattle will gain well. For gains on stockers there has to be a lot of grain easily available in the stalks. Most people prefer cows or big cattle that are in a holding pattern for grazing traditional stalks.
Now going to to wheat, rye, ect that is more protein and cattle will gain better especially if they have a place to get out of the mud. Cattle that go on this need to go to go to more wheat or to feedlot coming off. Cattle will bloom on the excessive protein. The weather they are in will play a factor.
