Subject: too many calories in my bread

East central Iowa

There are around 455 calories in a cup of flour.  When I make bread I use 4 cups of flour.  The bread doesn't last more than a couple of days because it's so darn good.  I like it with just butter but my wife likes it toasted.

Problem is in a very short time weight is gained so I've be asked not to make any more, at least for a while.  I wondered if there's a way to make lower calorie bread that still tastes as good.  I looked into cauliflower but it's super expensive, they sell it by the ounce.  I noticed something about bamboo but I might as well go to the shop and bring in some of my sawdust as that.
