makes sense why you aren't doing fall strips on those fields.

changes in lab methods for SOM analysis (or any other soil test parameter) definitely complicate interpretation of results.... as do changes in sampling time, location and depth.

SOM is a slow moving target with lots of natural variability so its hard to definitively identify real changes over time unless management changes dramatically. Careful point sampling (collection of samples around the same GPS points at the same depth and same time of year) should measure real changes more effectively than other sampling methods.
