| I had a landowner ask me what I was paying to rent and adjoining farm. I told him. He asked if I would rent his.
Pulled soil samples in the fall. I handed a copy to the landowner. I don’t expect him to do anything different than what we agree to, but he did state that the previous tenant complained that he left a lot of fertilizer out there. Well, the grid sampling didn’t find it.
Moral of the story: just because you are paying below market rate rents, doesn’t mean you are fertilizing. I keep saying that I won’t rent new land before I pull soil samples— I think land owners should do the same— every year. It stops a lot of BS. | |
