NE IL

I have been selling and using fungicides on my own corn since Headline was introduced.  I have always been from the school of getting the product on at tassel to start protection as soon as all of the leaves are out.  This past year I did what I always do, hit at full tassel.  2 weeks after we had thought we finished, we were working on billing and it was discovered that I had not turned in a 135 ac corn field.  Once we made up the order It probably took another 5 days or so for the plane to get it sprayed.  As it turned out, this was our healthiest looking corn late season and yields were best ever for that tough farm.

This has me rethinking timing.  When we first started using fungicide 20 years ago we were targeting GLS mainly. Now it seems like the late season diseases like Tar Spot and Southern rust are having the most impact.  I may start making 2 applications but for sure Im not going to be so jumpy pulling the trigger right at tassel if things look clean at that point.
