Subject: RE: Priming the pump when converting CRP to crops

NW IL, Mercer County
Year 1 was soybeans

This farm is broke up into smaller fields, its hilly, and irregular shape. I don’t strip-till it because of all these factors with the higher chance of erosion, so that leads me to a spring only N program. I like the idea of split applications so I typically apply half at planting and half as topdress.

OM back in 2016 was avg 2.5% (probably have 2012 data somewhere but cant find it). Tested in 2024 and I show avg of 3%. At some point, not sure if it was prior to 2016 or after, the soil lab I use switched to LOI which I have been told can affect the numbers.
