I drive fairly new pickup. I also have a decent line of farm equipment. I live in a nice house. I have a boat and a motorcycle also. We don't live extragavantly but comfortable. And its because of hard work and because for that hard work I've usually been paid a fair wage, so it doesn't sound like I could work for you. The last thing I would do is agree to terms with a landowner and work for nothing. So, as another farmer said, rent it to whomever you want. There's a sucker out there. By the way the "going rent" around me is way to high.

Maybe your COP is too high if you can't make the going rent work. If you can't make the going rent work, might as well call the auctioneer and cash the rent check.

I've got a better idea. I won't rent any so you can knock yourself out. Dig right in.plus, if I work ground for nothing, I won't be able to afford a new boat. I'll be just fine with my owned acres. And, I might add, when the day comes that I can't farm anymore, im sure as hell not going to try to squeeze every damned nickel out of a young guy that is trying to get going. Equipment payments (yes I know, any young guy should be working with a 4020 and a 1566), has little kids that they want to take on vacation. Has house payments. Is trying to get as good of insurance as they can. Probably works a full time job and picks up milk on the weekends when he can. I will happily rent on shares with a young guy that I trust. All you gold diggers that think everyone owes you something can lease it all to windmills and solar for all I care. I know im in the minority but you can take your dirt and choke on it before im falling for your extortion tactics. These guys don't have to work for you.[/QUOTE

You have definitely went off the deep end with your reply about I said. Simple fact is if you aren't profitable paying going cash rent in your area somebody is subsidizing the profit in your farm operation.

You are clueless about what makes me tick.. How many young people have you helped financially to buy land or start a business by putting your own $s on the line?
