Seems logical that 8" of snow will provide a sealing layer to preserve nutrients from volatilizing directly to the atmosphere but enough to make a difference, would say that's a tough question to answer. Is the top layer of your soil frozen?

If the soil isn't frozen, when the snow melts it will be like a nice gentle rain to carry nutrients into the soil.
