oldtiger - 1/23/2026 18:00 Jim...you already know this, but those cows can weather a lot with the woods close like that. Give them just a little advantage and they will do good I went out to check on them and to give them a couple buckets of sweet feed this afternoon and frankly was surprised at how good they looked. They were all active, came right up to the Ranger, smelling the grain in the back. I saw one cow nursing her heifer calf. It was amazing how they got through -23F temps and -47F wind chill early this morning! I am a believer in the benefits of cattle in the woods in the winter. Reminds me of how the plains Indians went into the wooded valleys in the winter as in the movie "Dances with Wolves". Just got to let them get out of the wind and make bedded places to lie down. I've been putting out hay where they are and think it should be rather than where I think it should be! A pleasant surprise today. Even the waterer is still liquid.
