Subject: RE: Freeze miser

Submersible tank heater, but if it gets extremely cold the heater wont keep up and ice will form on the top of the tank overnight and freeze the float. A few gallons of hot water poured on the float gets it going pretty easily after breaking the ice and letting the cattle drink a bit out of the tank.

What ive been doing the last couple days because it is so cold is actually shutting the float off at the Y valve when the cattle are pretty much done drinking for the night so the tank is not full the next morning. Thaw the float in the morning with hot water and turn on the y valve to the float and away it goes.

Obviously it is not anything like a dedicated permanent winter cattle waterer with buried water lines etc, but it works pretty good for what it is.
