Subject: 25 years ago I said the heck with modern grain production

Barry County, MI
Old guy worked our way out of debt
decided time to try something else
organic well why knot
lot of looking and traveling reading and listing and sorting through different thoughts from alot of different people
but lucky Ive went to acres USA number of Time's over the years
right away I ran into the right people one a guy from wis.
went to his talks and asked questions he had good answered
Prices good but still struggled with the darn weedsome years
would get things right beans always more tough
but black beans later planted later worked better
but soybeans seemed the way to go as you could get a contract easier
but still weeds
so a couple years ago Said the heck with soy's as the contract was not so good so decide the heck with beans altogether
so now we are growing corn and cereal with red clover as a cover crop just use a fertilizer spreader to seed cereal and disk once
then frost seed 10 of red clover through a Hurd seeded hold 50 lb of seed .
so now due to Canada thistle we are back to plowing spring
and planting 7000 planter use Mycrizzie on the corn seed and spread some chicken pellets

with the red clover now just corn then serial and clover rotation
much cleaner crops and nearly twice yield of corn
and weed will become much less of problem
we did the things g zimmer said to do and used the cal phase out of florida
that is important for us and people back in the 30s and 40s as well
most all of the plant takes it's feed through the organic matter in our fields
the bugs in our soil and and the acid breakdown of the phosphate and other minerals that are available but not soloable in our soil
synthetic nitrogen inters corn different than the nitrogen type that goes to the root system of our corn as it is broken down differently
we feed this hay pasture and the cows eat ear corn and mostly hay and pasture is legumes we do not vaccinate or have to give antibiotics to our cattle we have maybe 30 cows and finish their calves
on pasture and hay and mostly ear corn and a cereal and roasted soybeans and some Dr, organic mineral a lot of organic people you use this and it works good for us I like the 2 year rotation for now maybe Ill have to go to 1 corn 1 cereal and clover and 1 year just clover well see we don't bail any of the clover it all goes back on the ground archie ps we did a big compost deal in the beginning and got the base saturation fixed right off and our fert and cost are pretty low for 180 bus corn and pretty fair income per acre
