Early Bt and roundup traits are off patent. I expect to see my producer organizations vigorously work with regulators to make sure these traits are accepted in regulatory and export channels. The price point on basic traited seed corn looks to have opportunities to move downward going forward. If not from the Big Ag oligopoly then from regional players getting a chance to get in on the action without a nosebleed trait license cost.
The problem with the early Bt traits is that they are regulated by the EPA, which is holding back use and incorporation into inbreds as a low cost alternative. |
