SW WI | I have a 1999 honda CRV low miler brought back from Calif. Easy work on lots parts. According to information I find not made for long term use anything more than E10. I agree many more vehicles on the road later than 2001. no brainer.
The rubber and plastics are not made to handle the higher ethanol content according to what I read on older vehicle ( also in my manual aside online). I rather play the safe side. All the kwik trips in my area and other gas outlets all carry e10. Easy enough.
The labeling in picture says it is for flex fuel vehicles. It would be up to the consumer to what they have for vehicle.
Not any different buying oil, coolant. The consumer should have knowledge of their vehicle. boat motor, tractor whichever correct product to purchase.
If I had a FFV vehicle I would run the higher ethanol blends.
I bought old tractor 3 point didnt work correctly. The person put 90 weight gl4 in it. I could smell it. Years ago it was mineral oil GL1 was used. Guess that comes under knowing what type oil to put in. The cap said 90 wt on tractor. Just not the type.
Key Considerations:
Approval Status: The EPA has not authorized E15 for 2000 or older vehicles (non-flex-fuel).
Potential Damage: Higher ethanol content (15% vs the recommended 10% max) can cause rubber hoses to degrade and plastic components to swell or crack in older fuel systems. | |
