It’s a bit ironic to watch Cole the Corn Star building that Iowa mansion that must rival Rosann Barr’s aborted biggest house in Iowa, while discussing the poor economics of farming.

4th Generation has a good backup of really nice machinery to farm his 200 acres. Larson Farms, Millennial. They get the shiny stuff to show us how it’s done. It looks easy doesn’t it? I like those guys, they worked for the privileges they have. Hats off to them.

But.

I understand.

Things should be market driven.

We had it really good during the virus years, we got govt help like everyone else did, and it turned out we actually do produce an essential item, and everyone wanted to spend their money on our food. Here and abroad. So we had an above average period there.

We spent it all, on higher prices for land, fuel, fert, seed, iron, rent.

Well we are in a different period, the whole world doesn’t want so much food right now. Their economics changed, perceived supplies changed, go sit on your grains.

Those in the ag world need to follow along on the rollercoaster. Less fuel, less fert, less shiny iron, less land and rent costs are allowed.

We can spend down our equity, but in your terms, why should we keep you well funded at our loss?

You get to join in the party. Both directions. You get to come back down with us.
